Rachel is a Registered Nurse and since 2003 has worked as a Transfusion Practitioner (TP) in the UK. In addition to working as a TP within hospitals, Rachel also undertook a 12-month secondment in 2016 as a Patient Blood Management Practitioner for NHSBT so better understanding both the supply and the demand for blood.
Rachel is a member of the International Blood Transfusion Society (ISBT) Clinical Transfusion Working Party and Deputy Chair of the ISBT Transfusion Practitioner Forum. Rachel sits on the UK National TP Network Group, and the Emergency Planning Working Group, a sub-group of the NHS England National Blood Transfusion Committee. Within the British Blood Transfusion Society (BBTS) Rachel is part of the organising committee for their Annual Scientific Meetings and is Chair of the Paediatric Special Interest Group. Locally Rachel co-leads the London Region Transfusion Practitioners group.
Rachel has spoken extensively on the role of the Transfusion Practitioner both in the UK and internationally, and co-authored a number of published papers and articles on the role of the Transfusion Practitioner including the Transfusion Medicine paper “Patient Blood Management and the importance of the Transfusion Practitioner role to embed this into practice” with Linley Bielby.
Rachel is the senior Transfusion Practitioner at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, UK.
