Maura Dowling

Dr Maura Dowling has worked in the field of cancer nursing for over 30 years as a clinician, educator and researcher. She is currently a senior lecturer (associate professor) and programme director for the Master of Health Sciences (Oncology & Haematology) programme at the National University of Ireland, Galway. She is also an external examiner for the Royal Marsden School and a previous Chair of Multiple Myeloma Ireland.

Maura is a member of the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS) research working group, the EONS College of Cancer Nursing Task group, and the QUESTS (Qualitative Research in Trials Centre) group. Maura is also a research associate with Evidence Synthesis Ireland. She has published widely with over 110 peer-reviewed publications including both Cochrane and non-Cochrane qualitative evidence syntheses. She is an editorial board member of JNP: The Journal for Nurse Practitioners (Elsevier) and supports a regional Irish network of oncology and haematology advanced practice nurses undertaking and publishing research. Her current research projects include a mixed-method exploration of informal carers’ vulnerabilities when caring for a relative with a chronic haematological malignancy.
