Cynthia So-Osman

Dr Cynthia So-Osman finalized her specialisation in Internal Medicine, with a subspecialty training in Haematology (2000) and in Transfusion Medicine (2002). She obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Clinical Epidemiology (2008) and obtained her PhD with a thesis titled: “Patient Blood Management in Elective Orthopaedic Surgery” in 2012.

Since 2002 she is a Clinical Consultant in Transfusion Medicine at Sanquin Blood Bank at the Dept. of Transfusion Medicine, NL, and she actively participates in Patient Blood Management projects.

Besides her work at Sanquin Blood Bank, she works as a Clinical Haematology Consultant in the Erasmus University Hospital in Rotterdam, NL, she is a member of the International Collaborative on Transfusion Medicine Guidelines (ICTMG), a member of the BEST Collaborative. In May 2020 she entered the ISBT Board of Directors as Regional Director representative for Europe.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she chairs an international collaborative ISBT network with regular meetings to exchange information and perform COVID-related research and became member of the Cochrane international research group performing living systematic reviews on passive immune strategies for COVID-19 patients (convalescent plasma, hyperimmune immunoglobulins and monoclonal antibodies), both are still ongoing.
