Sustainability Initiatives

The Blood Meeting is committed to sustainability practice and reducing the impact on the environment. We encourage all attendees, sponsors, exhibitors, and suppliers to also consider environmentally friendly options in attending the Meeting.

Our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint:

Please see below some of the initiatives underway with the organisers and suppliers for the 2022 Meeting. 

The Venue: Sydney International Convention Centre

  • ICC Sydney is committed to reducing the environment impact of operations. As part of a recognised Green Precinct, awarded 6 stars under the Green Building Council of Australia’s Green Star Communities certification, and with a Gold LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, ICC Sydney hosts a raft of key sustainability features. In 2020 ICC Sydney received the Silver EarthCheck certification and was winner of the international UFI Sustainable Development Award for our outstanding initiatives. 
  • Sydney ICC partners with Sydney Water to decrease bottled water consumption and instead provides water in reusable vessels and via portable water stations. In addition, much of the unused food is donated to OzHarvest who provide food and meals to those in need.
  • Waste is a large part of events and Sydney ICC has tackled this guided by the refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle mthodology resulting in 75% of waste being diverted from landfill.
  • The Centre has energy saving processes in place including the largest 520 kilowatt photovoltaic array in any Australian CBD which powers around 5% of the electricity required for ICC.

The Meeting

  • Printed materials are kept to a minimum, with attendees encouraged to use electronic resources such as the meeting website and app. Attendees will be asked during registration if they wish to recieve printed materials so no excess will be printed.
  • Abstract materials are provided electronically only, via the website or app.
  • Name badges use paper and lanyards that can be recycled.
  • Meeting bags are not provided.
  • Sponsors and Exhibitors are requested to reflect positive environmental values and practices in their participation.

 What can you do?

  • The Hotels selected by the Meeting are all located near to the Convention Centre, and Sydney is a very walkable city with excellent public transport. Where possible, we encourage you to walk between locations rather than taxi or drive.
  • Please follow the waste separation instructions at the venue and at your accommodation.
  • Tap water stations are available in the Centre, please bring your own reusable bottle.
  • Please bring a reusable bag, if required, to carry your Meeting materials in.
